At a pre-CommunicAsia event Monday evening, Samsung unveiled its latest touchscreen mobile phone, the Jet. Though it can't strictly be considered a smartphone, the Korean manufacturer has packed it with features commonly found on more advanced devices.

Upside
The company is known for its brilliant displays, and the Jet is no exception. It comes with a WVGA (800 x 480-pixel), 3.1-inch AMOLED display that appears very bright and sharp. The screen resolution is the same as what you would find on high-end smartphones such as the HTC Touch HD and Sony Ericsson Xperia X1.

Connectivity-wise, the Jet comes with HSDPA for data transfers over the cellular network and Wi-Fi for times when you want to use the device at a hotspot. Other wireless options include Bluetooth and GPS for satellite navigation.

Those planning to use the Jet as a music player will be pleased to find a dedicated 3.5mm audio jack on its top edge. This means you can plug in most regular consumer headphones without a separate adapter. The handset comes with 2GB of memory and a microSD slot which supports cards up to 16GB, so storage of media files such as music and videos shouldn't be a problem.
